Italy–Czech Republic Collaboration Case Study

Led by InterSearch Italy, which manages the long-standing relationship with a global commercial vehicle manufacturer, InterSearch Worldwide was engaged to appoint a new Country HR Director for one of the organization’s most strategic manufacturing operations in the Czech Republic.

The assignment required close coordination between the InterSearch member in Italy (Euren InterSearch) and the one in Czech Republic (Dr. Pendl & Dr. Piswanger InterSearch), combining international client manaSzgement with deep local operational understanding.

The Challenge

Although formally positioned as a Country HR Director role, the assignment extended far beyond a traditional HR leadership search.

The selected candidate would need to operate within a highly demanding industrial environment involving:

• large-scale manufacturing operations
• multiple stakeholder groups
• strong interaction between local operations, international HR Business Partners, and Group HR Centres of Expertise across multiple countries
  and a complex operational leadership landscape

In addition to local manufacturing leadership responsibilities, the role also required close collaboration with multiple international HR stakeholders, including HR Business Partners supporting Operations, Engineering, Finance, and other Group functions across Europe. Navigating this matrix environment successfully was considered a critical success factor for the position.

The role required not only strong HR expertise, but also credibility, maturity, and the ability to build alignment and trust across the organization.

Deep Local Understanding as a Competitive Advantage

A key advantage in the assignment was InterSearch Czech Republic’s prior involvement with the client organization.

Over recent years, the team had successfully completed both Plant HR Manager and Plant Manager assignments for the same operation. This provided:

• detailed understanding of the manufacturing culture
• direct insight into local leadership dynamics
• familiarity with stakeholder expectations
• and strong calibration capability from the outset

The local team also conducted on-site visits to the production facility, further strengthening understanding of the operational environment and leadership requirements.

The Italian InterSearch member coordinated the client relationship and managed communication with Group stakeholders, while the InterSearch member of Czech Republic led local market assessment and candidate evaluation.
